I am new to astrology?

I am new to astrology?
I understand a little about horoscopes and I read my horoscope daily, but I don’t understand what, for example, virgo rising, sagittarius sun, libra moon, etc. means? I’m a Leo, so what would that make me? I don’t get this horoscope stuff.

well you say your a leo that your sun sign :]
then there is the signs that are in your planets and some stuff like that. those are determinded by like the day and time you were born i think. i have a site that tells you all that. just fill it in and it tells you.

You just contradicted yourself. Your Sun sign is either Sagittarius or Leo. It cannot be both. On the day you were born, the Sun was “on a sign” as they say, for you it’s Leo or Sag. I don’t know, you’d better check. The Moon was on Libra which give you some traits from Libra in that aspect only. The Rising Sign, changes every hour or so, so depending on what time you were born and where, you will have a specific sign. Yours is Virgo. Your Sun sign is how you are deep inside, the Rising Sign is what people first see when they meet you. The Moon indicates your instincts, habit patterns, unconscious drives, etc. Each planet indicates something different. And they have the 12 Houses too. This is just a fraction of Astrology, there is a LOT more to it then this. At first it seems hard, but you get the hang of it. It’s pretty awesome. Good luck!

Your sun sign only makes up part of your personality. There is so much more to it than sun signs. You have planets in signs and in houses and things set up in different ways effect every ones personality differently. Your rising sign or ascendant is the mask you show to other people. Your moon sign deals with you emotions etc…

There are a lot of free sites that will do your chart for you and give you some extra insight on what it means when you have your Venus in Cancer and things like that.

You just need to know your time of birth and place of birth in order to get you chart done and birthday of course.

Do you read horoscopes for both your sun sign and your rising sign?
I’m a sagittarius with pisces rising. Not that I really “believe” in horoscopes or astrology, but I still get a kick out of reading mine daily. Anyway, to people who are interested in astrology, do you think it’s benificial to read daily horoscopes for both your sun sign and your rising sign? What exactly IS a rising sign and what does it have to do with who you are as a person? Just wondering… icon smile I am new to astrology?

Yeah, I’m still sort of a skeptic on the whole astrology thing although there was this in-depth analysis specifically charting my natal sign(s) that explained my personality and psychology that kind of left me speechless. Who knows, maybe that saying “We’re all made of stars” has something to it. I’m an Aries-Taurus cusp which means that I was born in the house of Aries but also share Taurean traits because of the proximity of that sign’s ascension. So, yeah. I’m kind of pressed to read both just because neither fits particularly well. The trouble is the interpretation and application of what either means.

    I’m a Scorpio-Sagittarius cusp (last day of Scorpio) and my rising is Sagittarius. I like to read both, Scorpio and Sagittarius, when I see them in magazines, newspapers, and “some” online just for fun to see if they are true. Usually I find the ones in some magazines for Sagittarius to be true for me. There’s some that really don’t make sense.

    For me, I’m more interested in Astrology, and I fit more with Sag traits… I think Astrology and Horoscopes are two different things. I think Astrology tell you about the person and Horoscopes tell you what is going to or what should HAPPEN to a person (which is less likely to be true, compared to Astrology.) Maybe that’s why A LOT of people think that all this “stuff” is bogus…and a bunch of lying ways to get people’s money (i know I haven’t spent money on any of it) =)

    Anyways, sorry I went off on a tangent, haha. I think it’s my mercury in Sag that may be the reason why. I would think to read both for sun and rising, and if your on the cusp… read both signs.

    A rising sign is how the world sees you, how you physically look (your appearance) and how you act towards other people, how you associate and how you socialize i guess.

    And how it deals with you as a person? Well, I just think of it this way, the way we act and think is because of the people around us. Wouldn’t you think so? Unless, your one of those cat ladies that just stay in the house and have no human contact, EVER. It’s the face you present to the world.

    Before I even learned about Astrology and rising signs I was always told that I have a big smile, energetic, optimistic, and happy-go-lucky and a lot of other personality traits….and that goes with my Sag rising…so I find it to be more true than my Sun sign even though i am on the cusp of Scorpio and Sagittarius…Sagittarius seems to be more stronger for me than Scorpio, because of life experience. :) ))

    Your sun sign which is leo is the most prominent aspect of your personality. When getting your chart done the signs attached to other plaents are how you conduct your affairs in certain situations…i.e. if you have aries in venus (in your birth chart) you are very passionate and perhaps a bit aggressive in your love life. (simply because aries is a aggressive sign and venus is the planet of love.) hope that helps to clarify things.

    newspaper horoscopes are generally not accurate… not enough information. not all leos are made alike! :) you need your exact time and location of birth to know what your ascendant or “rising sign” is. you can probably look up your birth date and year and find out our moon sign unless the moon was changing signs that day. your rising sign is the sign on the cusp of the first house of your chart, or the sign that was on the horizon when you were born. where as your sun sign (leo) shows your individuality, your ascendant and any planets in the first house shows the “you” that you show to the world. it also rules your physical self – people with aquarian ascendants often have curly hair, females with cancer rising usually carry their weight on top and have large breasts. your moon sign rules the home and your emotions. all of the planets and the signs and houses they occupy can tell a lot about you. if youd like i can do your chart (bridgeyboo1114@yahoo.com). if you are interested in learning astrology, the A-Z Horoscope delineator is an awesome book – it’s a little bit on the negative side because astrology is open to interpretation… if you’d like something more light-hearted, try “the only astrology book you’ll ever need” by Joanna Martine Woolfolk.
